Insert text snippets with spoken shortcuts

Updated 3 October 2026

A replacement turns a short spoken phrase into a fixed text. This lets you insert a signature, a recurring sentence or a long name with a few words.

Create a text snippet

  1. Open ParusVoice and choose “Replacements”.
  2. Under “Original text”, enter the shortcut you want to speak.
  3. Under “Replacement text”, enter the text that should appear instead.
  4. Add the rule with the plus and try it in a note.

Example: original text “my signature”, replacement text “Best regards, Mila Hoffmann”. If you dictate “my signature” at the end of a message, your sign-off appears there.

Choose a distinct shortcut

Pick a phrase you won’t say by chance in normal speech. “My signature” is more distinct than an everyday word. Each rule has exactly one shortcut; a comma in the original text doesn’t separate additional shortcuts.

You can edit the replacement text later directly in the list and confirm with the checkmark.

Dictionary or text snippet?

You can combine both. The shortcuts of your text snippets also appear in the dictionary under “From replacements”. Text snippets belong to your account and are ready on every Mac you use. With live translation they apply to the translated text, so you speak the shortcut in the target language.
