Punctuation, paragraphs and commands while dictating
ParusVoice adds punctuation automatically. Where you want to set the structure yourself, just speak the mark or the break. A spoken mark always takes priority over the automatic one.
The main commands
| You say | The text reads |
|---|---|
| “comma” | , |
| “period” or “full stop” | . |
| “question mark” | ? |
| “exclamation mark” | ! |
| “colon” | : |
| “semicolon” | ; |
| “em dash” | – |
| “hyphen” | - |
| “open paren”, “close paren” | ( ) |
| “open quote”, “close quote” | “ ” |
| “ellipsis” | … |
| “new line” | line break |
| “new paragraph” | new paragraph |
There are also marks like “forward slash”, “at sign”, “percent sign”, “euro sign”, “section sign” or “degree sign”.
An example
Say: “Hi Lea comma new paragraph please send me the draft by Friday period”. The text then shows the greeting with a comma, a new paragraph and the sentence with a period. You don’t have to release the key for the paragraph.
The word instead of the mark
To get the word itself in the text, say “spelled out” after it: “period spelled out” gives you the word “period”. In clear cases like “a short period” or “the trial period”, ParusVoice recognizes the word without the addition.
Bold, italics and underline
Say explicitly what should be emphasized, for example: “Make the next sentence bold: Please reply by Friday.” In apps with formatting, such as Mail, Pages or Word, the text arrives formatted. In plain text fields it appears without formatting.
For changes to existing text, such as selecting, deleting or moving the cursor, there are separate commands: Select and correct text by voice.
