Set up ParusVoice and start your first dictation

Updated 3 October 2026

With ParusVoice you dictate straight into the text field of any Mac app. Setup walks you through sign-in, permissions, microphone and dictation key. You need a Mac with macOS 14 or later and an internet connection.

Set up ParusVoice

  1. Download ParusVoice from the website and open the app.
  2. Choose “Sign in via browser”. If you don’t have an account, create one there with “Create account”. After signing in, you continue in the app.
  3. Allow microphone access and turn on Accessibility for ParusVoice. The steps are in Allow microphone access and turn on Accessibility.
  4. Say a few words in the microphone test and check that the level moves.
  5. Choose your main language and confirm the dictation key.
  6. Try dictation and the assistant in the two practice fields.

Your first dictation

Open a new note, for example, and click where your text should go. Hold the dictation key, the Fn key by default, and speak a complete thought. Release the key when you’re done.

While you speak, your text runs along at the top of the screen. When you release the key, ParusVoice inserts the cleaned-up version at the cursor: without filler words, with punctuation.

You can also tap the key briefly. One tap starts the dictation, a second tap ends it. Holding and tapping both work by default.

Try this sentence

Say: “Hi Lea, I’ll send you the draft tomorrow morning.” The comma and the period then appear in the right places, without you speaking them.

If no text arrives, see Dictated text isn’t inserted. If the key doesn’t respond, see Dictation shortcut not working.
