Allow microphone access and turn on Accessibility
ParusVoice needs two permissions from macOS. Microphone access allows recording your voice. ParusVoice needs Accessibility for the dictation key and for inserting text into other apps. You see the status of both under “Settings” > “Permissions”.
Allow microphone access
In the “Microphone” row, click the action offered. If macOS asks for the first time, choose “Allow”. If you declined earlier, ParusVoice opens the right place in System Settings. Turn on ParusVoice there and return to the app.
Turn on Accessibility
In the “Accessibility” row, click the action. ParusVoice opens “Privacy & Security” > “Accessibility” in System Settings. Turn on ParusVoice there and confirm the macOS prompt.
You don’t need to set anything in individual apps.
Check that everything works
- Open a new note and place the cursor in the text field.
- Start a short dictation with the dictation key.
- Check that the indicator responds to your voice.
- End the dictation and check that the text appears.
If ParusVoice doesn’t show the new status yet, click the gray status circle. It checks the permission again.
Switch is on, but nothing works?
After an update, macOS can show an Accessibility permission as on even though it no longer works. In that case, remove ParusVoice from the list with the minus, add it again with the plus and turn it on.
If recording responds but the text doesn’t arrive, read Dictated text isn’t inserted. If the level stays silent, check the microphone in Choose a microphone and dictate with AirPods.
