Select and correct text by voice

Updated 3 October 2026

With “Edit by Voice” you control existing text: you select a passage and replace it with a new dictation, delete it or place the cursor at a specific spot. The feature is part of Pro.

Turn it on

  1. Open ParusVoice and choose “Dictation mode”.
  2. Choose the mode you want to use the commands in and turn on “Edit by Voice”.

Below the switch is the command list for that mode. The commands work in your main language, German or English. Additional dictation languages don’t add any commands.

Replace a word

  1. Dictate a sentence, for example “We’re meeting on Thursday.”
  2. As a separate dictation, say “select Thursday”.
  3. Speak the new word: “Friday”. It replaces the selection.

Commands in the middle of a Live dictation

In Live mode the commands also work without releasing the key. Pause briefly before and after the command, and ParusVoice recognizes it as an instruction. Without pauses, the phrase stays normal text. Only “add to dictionary” needs a separate dictation.

Where the commands work

The commands work in most Mac apps and browser fields. In Google Docs, in Terminal and in apps whose text ParusVoice can’t read, the phrases go in as normal dictation. For free-form changes like “shorter” or “more formal”, use the assistant: Shorten, rephrase or turn text into a list.
