Default or Live: When does your text appear?

Updated 3 October 2026

ParusVoice has two dictation modes. Default inserts the finished text when you release the key. Live writes sentence by sentence straight into the document while you speak. Both modes clean up the text.

Default: one finished block

While you speak, you read your text along at the top of the screen. When you release the key, ParusVoice cleans up the whole dictation at once and inserts it at the cursor.

This suits you when you want to finish a thought first, such as a message. ParusVoice handles corrections while you speak: “We’re meeting at ten, no, at eleven” gives you eleven.

Live: sentence by sentence in the document

Place the cursor in the text field and speak. At every pause, ParusVoice cleans up what you said and inserts it one pause later, usually one sentence at a time. So the first words appear after your first sentence.

Switch modes

  1. Open ParusVoice and choose “Dictation mode” in the sidebar.
  2. Click “Default” or “Live”.

The choice applies from the next dictation. The “Edit by Voice” switch is remembered separately for each mode. Live mode offers more commands, see Select and correct text by voice.
