Choose a microphone and dictate with AirPods
ParusVoice records through the built-in microphone, a connected microphone or the macOS system default. To get started, the app recommends the built-in microphone.
Set a microphone
- Open “Settings” > “Audio input”.
- Choose “Specific device” if you always want to use the same microphone.
- Click the device.
- Dictate a short sentence and check the result.
With “System default”, ParusVoice follows the microphone choice in macOS. To switch quickly, use “Microphone” in the ParusVoice menu in the menu bar.
Work with AirPods
You can listen to music or calls on AirPods and dictate through the Mac’s microphone at the same time. To do this, choose the built-in microphone as a specific device. Audio output stays on the AirPods.
If you use the AirPods microphone, macOS switches the connection to a mode with lower audio quality. If recognition sounds worse with it, compare the same sentence with the built-in microphone.
With your MacBook lid closed
With the lid closed, the built-in microphone can’t record. ParusVoice then picks a clearly available external microphone and shows you which one. If there isn’t a clear one, dictation doesn’t start and a card tells you why. In that case, choose a device under “Audio input”.
If no voice comes through at all, check the selected device and microphone access, see Allow microphone access and turn on Accessibility.
