History, retention and privacy
Every dictation goes into the history on your Mac. There you search old texts, copy them again or listen to the recording. You decide how long the history is kept, down to not at all.
Find a dictation
- Open ParusVoice and choose “Home”.
- Type a word from the dictation into the history search field.
- Hover over the entry and click “Copy”.
The history is sorted by day. For entries with a recording, the three-dot menu also offers “Export audio”. Delete entries one by one or several at once.
Set retention
Open “Settings” > “Data & privacy”. Under “Local data retention”, choose how long dictations and recordings stay on your Mac: unlimited, one day, seven days, 30 days or “Don't store locally”. If you choose a shorter period, you confirm in a dialog that older entries will be deleted.
The specialty modules have their own retention, see Use the medical and legal modules.
Use text at the cursor
In the same section you find “Use text at the cursor”. ParusVoice then reads the text around the insertion point so your dictation fits in cleanly. If you turn it off, this text is no longer sent.
Automatic learning in the dictionary has its own switch, “Learn automatically”, see Add names and terms to your dictionary.
Where your dictations are processed
Speech recognition and text processing run in data centers in the EU; our own servers are in Vienna. Recordings and dictation texts aren’t kept there, and they don’t train AI models. Your history stays on your Mac and isn’t synced between devices. Your dictionary and text snippets, on the other hand, belong to your account.
