Q: What is the difference between Standard and Live?

Standard collects your dictation in the display at the top of the screen and inserts the cleaned-up version when you release the key. Live writes straight into your document at every pause, cleaned up section by section. Both modes are available on every plan; switch in Settings.

Q: What does ParusVoice do that the Mac's built-in dictation doesn't?

macOS dictation listens for sounds and guesses the rest. ParusVoice uses a language model that understands the whole sentence. It distinguishes “their” from “there”, handles technical terms, names and accents, and removes filler words. Voice editing, the assistant and live translation are also included. The Mac's built-in dictation has none of these.

Q: Why doesn't recognition run entirely on my Mac?

The best recognition and language models are too large for a notebook. Local models hear less accurately and make apps gigabytes heavy. ParusVoice processes your dictation, encrypted, on servers in Vienna and stores no audio. The app stays small and your Mac stays fast.

Q: What happens to my recordings?

They are converted to text and then discarded. Our servers store neither audio nor dictations. History stays on your Mac, for as long as you choose. Your content is never used to train AI models.

I was thinking about it again on my run today, and I actually think the app doesn’t need nearly as many features as I first thought. Basically it’s enough if it tracks the route and tells you honestly at the end whether you’ve improved or not. Everything else is really just a distraction.
